It’s a Hairy Situation! – Take Care of Dry Brittle Hair

Winter season is upon us! While you are out in the harsh elements, it is important to remember to take good care of your hair. Cold temperatures, chilly winds and snow can take their toll on your beautiful locks. Ward off bad hair days with these simple steps to keep your hair looking fabulous this winter.

Rock a chic hat.

Not only are hats stylish, but they are useful, too. Hats are a simple way to protect your hair from the winter weather. Covering your hair from the cold rain and snow can be critical in protecting your hair from becoming dry. If you’re worried about hat hair, try styling up a scarf or beanie on your head instead.

Don’t wash your hair every day.

Did you know that washing your hair every day can actually cause damage? Try washing your hair only 2-3 times a week to prevent any unnecessary damage. If you have trouble managing an oily mane, invest in a good dry shampoo to rub into your scalp on the days you don’t wash your hair. This will keep your hair both healthy and beautiful.

Treat yourself to a deep hair condition.

Pamper your scalp once a week with a deep leave-in conditioner. It may seem like a hassle, but deep conditioning your hair for 20-30 minutes a week can work miracles to ward off dry brittle locks. Conditioning your hair will help replenish any moisture your hair has lost from dry heat indoors and cold weather outside.

Eat healthy and stay hydrated.

Eating foods that are healthy for you is also healthy for your hair. Consume a diet full of nutrients and vitamins this winter. It is important for your hair to receive proper nutrition, especially in the winter months. Drinking plenty of water will help lock in moisture as well as keep your body hydrated.

Avoid blow drying your hair too much.

Blow dryers may be key in your hair routine, but they can also be a menace in creating dry hair. Try not to blow dry your hair every day, as over-drying can wick out all the moisture and make it brittle.  Try letting your hair air dry at night when you’re away from the cold outdoors.

Trim your hair every 6-8 weeks

The ends of your hair need to be trimmed every 6-8 weeks during the winter months. The combination of cold air and dry heat can increase the number of split ends in your hair, making it more brittle and frizzy. Schedule regular hair trimmings to maintain a well-kept and healthy head of hair.
